It is with great pleasure that I can now reveal... that I will be heard once again as Count Dooku, and new characters Ziro the Hutt, and Cad Bane in Lucasfilm Animation's new Clone Wars TV series and Feature Film project*.

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is slated to premiere in movie theaters August 15th, with the 30 episode animated series later showing on Cartoon Network and TNT.

Lavishly produced, George Lucas intends to "...push the art of animation forward..." with this project - and from what I know so far, I believe it might just very well do that.

*Latest word is that Christopher Lee himself may be returning in the role of Count Dooku (for the Theatrical Feature production - only).

Congratulations!

How closely have/will you work with Mr. Lucas on this project? How "involved" is he usually?

Thank you.

We work in Southern California. Mr. Lucas stays "up north", and doesn't work directly with us down here - but is apparently wholeheartedly involved with every detail of the production entrusted through his dedicated staff of creatively motivated filmmaking professionals. They are given complete license and the finest tools possible to cover all aspects of making a top-drawer series, which George then gets to "tinker" with as the main influential "guru" in the process. He does not interfere with, nor stifle individual creativity - but is no doubt the most authoritative co-contributor in this "juggernaut" animation venture.

While most of the cast has not met him personally, he has made his approval clear through his stated regard for us as the exclusive voices of his characters at this current stage of the saga - imploring us to deliver lines and personality from our own individual creative impulses, without specific concerns over "voice-matching" our live-action counterparts from the Movies. Supervising Director Dave Filoni was asked to relay the message from him, that with the Feature Film series completely behind him, as far as he's concerned, we (our "ragtag team of voice actors") are henceforth to be regarded as the "official cast" of Star Wars characters, for all intents and purposes. What a nice thing to say to an actor. ...Kind of like Yoda himself declaring "A Jedi, you are.", then handing out lightsabers to us all. It's all been an indescribably cool experience.

When you work for a project that has a merchandising "line", are you offered any items for sons, daughters, nieces, or nephews? Is that ever an option or do you have to buy your own lightsaber? Very Happy

Thank you.

Surprisingly to some, perhaps, consumer merchandise is only occasionally made available to production groups - and tends to be very limited in quantity. They are completely different divisions of the corporations, or not at all related to the producing company - which often has to "special order" items, which are paid for out of production funds, or by the cast and crew members themselves. Crew hats and jackets, however, are a common 'perk' on Movie productions.

Bravo CB!!!!

30 episodes and a film feature! A very ambitious venture indeed, only George Lucas could pull something like that off. From my very limited contact with Lucas Films in the mid '90's, they are top notch and money seemed to be no object so as long as Mr Lucas gets what he envisions.

Are there any options for another 30 episodes later on?

It's nice when someone knows what they want and knows how to get it. Do you find this to be more of the exception then the rule, especially when it come to staffers?

I can only imagine. What facilities are the sessions and what kind of equipment are they using?

Congratulations!!

If I knew more, it wouldn't be proper to say. But that's all I know, anyway. www.starwars.com is very good about revealing just about everything related to this project, so that's definitely the place to go for honest and accurate information. Program content and plotlines, naturally, are strictly "off limits".

Depends on the company. Sometimes, Studio "Suits" breathe down the necks of every detail; but this is not the only production group that allows creative staff to actually create significantly within the collaborative process. As a Showbiz Rule though, the bigger the money, the greater the restrictive interference.

Our part of it is recorded at one of the most popular facilities for animation sound; I've worked there very often, on all kinds of productions, for decades. Certainly one of the very best in the business, but nothing beyond standard state-of-the-art. It's the animation and post-production facilities that would be on "the cutting edge", I'm sure. I hear the Skywalker Ranch digs are quite something, but have never been there. One day, perhaps...

Is there a certain microphone Mr. Lucas insists that they use for the recording? What microphone is/was being used for this project?

Thank you.

The usual top-notch best for animation - but nothing "special": Good ol' U87s and Gefell UMT 70/71s. Mixing, however, gets the full Skywalker Sound treatment - the original creators of premium THX audio standards and systems for first-run Movie Theaters (later "spun off" as an independent company).

Terrific, Corey! Congratulations. I'm glad that Lucas takes your job, and that of your fellow voice actors, so seriously as to call you *the* voices of the characters these days. It's a well-deserved honor.

Just to clarify - are there actually only 30 episodes planned at the moment, or did you mean to say that the episodes would be 30 minutes apiece? I believe I read somewhere that Lucas plans to make around 100 episodes total - hence the confusion.

Of course, maybe only 30 episodes have been fully scripted at this point, so maybe that's what the number refers to...

Please clarify. Thanks in advance!

Yes and Yes - so far there are a total of 30 episodes in production (with each one to be presented as a 30 minute "mini-movie"); and that's all we've been told officially.

http://www.starwars.com/theclonewars/news/announcement.html

I think we can all presume that if all goes well, the series will continue - until the storyline is all "played out" to a satisfying conclusion. And going by what we've seen so far, that's a pretty safe bet.

...and this just in: I've been informed that some stars of the live action feature movies have asked to reprise their roles for this new Animated Clone Wars Movie release. At this time Christopher Lee is slated to perform the voice of Count Dooku in the theatrical version, but I will still be nicely featured as Ziro the Hutt, as well as in a few supporting roles. I will remain as Dooku (and all my other characters) throughout the Animated Series, as initially reported.

Of course it's a bit disappointing, but I never have any complaints when an original performer returns to a role they've previously left open for soundalike voice actors (like myself) to enjoy and prosper from in a multitude of ancillary productions. And it is only because of the Animated Series work being carried-over to a Feature Film production, that any of us "Non-Camera Actors" would have been included as featured players in a major new animated theatrical release, in the first place (with the current state of celebrity-centric voice casting) - so it's a big "plus" for me, either way. All Good!
