Dick Tufeld, one of the voices of my childhood, has passed away at the age of 85.

Most people know him as the voice of the robot in "Lost in Space" but I'll always remember listening to his voice on various Disney TV programs.

Here's a commercial spot from 1965 that features his indelible voice:

*EDIT* - Here is Mr. Tufeld's LA Times obituary:

Dick Tufeld was/is most certainly one of my favorite voices. He had that fantastic announcer sound. His delivery was the definition of "professional". I will always remember him from his sign off: "This is Dick Tufeld speaking". Thank you Dick.

Richard "Dick" Tufeld was simply the Best of The Best.
No other classic Announcer did it with such polish and panache, nor ever sounded so bright, bold, and handsome at the microphone. Especially when framed as the official Voice of "Disney", his sweeping and majestic command of tone and phrasing, expressed in exquisitely refined texture and phrasing, reliably ignite the imagination and inspire the soul - whenever his sparkling classic vocal tracks are launched through any capable loudspeakers, public and private, great and small.

What a loss.

I'll keep looking for something more appropriate - but in the meantime, here's at least one sample of the great Dick Tufeld on an otherwise cringeworthy 1960's Disney movie trailer:

Unfortunately though the soundtrack was apparently microphone-recorded from a TV set loudspeaker, you can still enjoy both Tufeld and Frees attempting to sell this real dog of a movie.

Ahhh... Much better. The trailer quality, anyway. The lost era following Walt's passing sure didn't produce many films anyone could feel terribly proud of...
